🌍 From Waste to Watt: Selecta’s Breakthrough in Circular Economy 🌍
At Selecta Group, sustainability is at the heart of what we do. We’re proud to announce our innovative initiative: converting coffee waste into renewable energy through a collaborative partnership with Circular Coffee Company.
♻️ Turning Coffee Grounds into Power
Every year, tons of coffee grounds are discarded as waste. At Selecta, we’re changing this narrative by giving coffee waste a second life. Through this initiative, used coffee grounds are collected, dried, and transformed into eco-friendly coffee logs. These logs serve as a sustainable energy source, supporting cleaner energy consumption.
🚀 Impacting the Environment Positively
🤝 Collaboration at Its Best
The program significantly reduces carbon emissions and diverts waste from landfills. It’s a win-win for both businesses and the planet, showcasing the power of circular economy principles in action.
Our partnership with Circular Coffee Company demonstrates what’s possible when like-minded organizations come together to tackle pressing environmental challenges. Together, we’re creating value not just for our clients but for the environment as a whole.
From Coffee Grounds to Hard Carbon
In collaboration with RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) and Granode, a leader in battery technology, we are transforming used coffee grounds collected from offices, workplaces, and public spaces into bio-carbon. Through a process of heating coffee grounds to 1000°C in a nitrogen environment, we produce hard carbon, a critical material for battery anodes. Months of research on blends and roast levels have shown promising results, with high carbonization yields demonstrating strong potential for practical applications. This innovative approach not only reduces waste but also lessens reliance on mining metals like cobalt and nickel, aligning with our sustainability goals.
A Greener, Smarter Future
The Waste to Watt initiative repurposes coffee waste to create efficient, eco-friendly battery materials, offering a scalable solution for the growing demand in EVs and renewable energy applications. The project has already gained recognition from Swedish industry leaders and sustainability advocates. As we scale up, we remain committed to driving innovation and building a sustainable future—powered by something as simple as coffee grounds.
